 RoadBlock's Rockin Blues Revue

Thanks for visiting with us today. We wanted to take a little time to share our vision with you, so here it goes:

We are hoping to find people interested in forming the nucleus of the band RoadBlock which we plan to ultimately market as RoadBlock's Rockin' Blues Revue with the goal of "playing out" in the Orlando area 2-3 times per month.

We are hoping to establish a core unit consisting of guitar, keys. drums and bass. This core unit will not only host the jam every Sunday at Oyster Bay from 4 -9 pm., but this will also serve as their weekly practice day, as well as a time to meet other musicians, play the music we love, and hopefully, entertain a few people.

Our plan for marketing the Rockin' Blues Revue to other venues will be somewhat different and should be explained:  We feel it will be more fun and exciting, as well as marketable, for the fans to see a few different blues styles and performers during a 3- 4 set  (3 1/2 hour) show. Therefore, we intend to play the "Rockin' Blues Revue" gigs with the core band and highlight or showcase  3 - 4 other musicians each night. These "showcase" musicians will consist of musicians we meet at the jams who may be very talented, and only want to play a set or two per month, but want to play in front of a crowd with a great band and not have to haul gear or commit to a weekly practice schedule. We feel this type of show featuring 3-4 “sit-ins” per night could evolve into a powerful Rockin' Blues/ R&B show and still maintain that loose, fun, jamband feel that could be very entertaining.

So what does it pay? Well, if you are in this for the money - it's not going to be much to start. The Sunday jam pays 20% of the revenue generated for all food and drink from the time we start till the time we end. On average we were taking in around $125 - $150 on Tuesdays. We think we can do much better with this new Sunday time slot, and our goal is $300 per jam. Also know that entry level weekend gigs in the Orlando are paying approx. $300 - $400 per night. We do intend to split the proceeds between the core band members after each gig (we usually get cash), keeping in mind we will have operating expenses of $25-$30 per month for the website (orlandobluesjam.com) and the cost of printing fliers, and the jammers who are invited to “sit-in” are not considered core band members and will not be compensated.

The bottom line is that we are willing to put in the extra time and effort to market and promote our vision, and we are looking for some people who love playing the blues and entertaining a crowd as much as we do. We have day jobs to pay our bills, so we’re not in this for the money, but we don't want to "pay to play" either, so if what we take home at the end of the day pays our gas, and we had fun, and the audience enjoyed the music- Mission Accomplished
